Is The Grass Greener On The Other Side?

I have read things like the grass is greener on the other side, but I pretty much don’t agree with it. What if there is no other side? What if what you see is all that is? Rather why won’t you just water the side you are on, and make it greener?

I grew up hearing people say it gets bad when you grow up, a lot of stress comes with growing up and life itself becomes even harder.

I always wanted to know why all they say is the bad side of life. Isn’t life something to look forward too? I used to think this was my childish wishful thinking but I now know it wasn’t.

Life is hard and sad, so I hear. “When is this gonna end” has become like a popular song and a slogan. But really? Is life that bitter? Do we want this to end?

I mean, aren’t we focusing on the bitter side and forgetting the sweetest of all like;

  • Seeing your siblings smile every morning regardless of what they are going through?

  • Waking up to those hard laughs and jokes of your big brothers on empty stomachs, laughing with them at how things are too complicated but hey you have them no matter what.

As long as you’re with them, life will always be sweet and worth fighting for.

It's easy to think someone’s life is perfect and better than ours because of the pictures on their Social medias or even how they appear in society. We are eager to know their lives or wish to be like them and have what they have. Yours might be better yet you admire theirs. You just wish you were them, while most of the times they are far from having it together. They might look like they got it all together but they might be miserable inside. You never know what people are going throughout.

The reality is, no one's life is perfect either. Look, it's not like we live a terrible life, it's not like there isn’t something to celebrate no matter how small it might be. Maybe if we would shift our focus a little and focus on the greener side of the grass it would be a better life worth living.

You may not afford going out every other weekend and live a life you see on social media, but you have a loving family and isn’t that something to be happy for?

Some of those that you see in happy pictures might be craving to have a loving home that you have. That’s why you should focus on the greener side.

Someone once told me that it was time for her to enroll in College. All her friends and former classmates were registering but she didn’t have money for tuition. So it all seemed like she wouldn’t join.

To be honest I felt sad about that and wondered what I’d do about it. One day when we met again she looked so happy and motivated I was thought to myself that she had finals joined campus and to my surprise she told me she didn’t register.

After losing school fees, she started looking for alternatives and luckily she got a part time job and she was grateful and happy. You could see it in her eyes. She chose not to be carried away by the fact that she wasn’t able to afford school.

She found joy in enjoying what she had at the moment. See the grass isn’t always greener unless you water it. There is a lot of examples but let me talk about my experience too.

When we were very young we lost both of our parents in a tragic accident. Those memories always tear me apart whenever I think about them. None of us three would have imagined a life as orphans. As a last born, my last hope was on my big brother and sister.

They too were young but we managed to have a happy life. Here this correctly, our life wasn’t perfect, we would sleep on a hungry stomach. I would move from school to school because of how expensive school fees were.

All in all, I would thank God for my siblings, for peace and for experiences. I didn’t wish for anyone’s life. Sometimes I heard people wondering how we have a happy family no matter the hardships.

It haven’t been the same since our parents left but I would be surprised at how my classmates envied my life. They would brag about how they want my life because I always looked happy and content.

To be honest I cried a lot. There were moments that I would break and it still happens. Nevertheless, I wore my best smile because I had come to admit that there is nothing like perfect and I should enjoy the life I have because one day I won’t have it anymore.

I have read things like the grass is greener on the other side, but I don’t agree with it. What if there is no other side? What if what you see is all that is there? Rather why won’t you just water the side you are on to make greener?

This has helped me live a happy life. You water your grass by reading, hard work and practicing gratitude because no one has it all together. There is no place on planet earth that has everything you need. The greener side of the grass is the one you water. Your life will only depend on the perspective you are seeing it from.
